HEALTH and EXERCISE
The Anchors offers dental clinics, monthly foot clinics and monthly blood pressure clinics. The Anchors also offers exercise: tai chi, strength training, yoga, bowling and spring and fall bike rides (in addition to occasional special activities which are announced in our monthly newsletter).
Our exercise programs use trained, experienced, expert professionals who provide their services for substantially reduced rates. All exercise classes are subsidized by the Friends of ECOA.

The Anchors provides a variety of opportunities to help you remain in good health.
Mindful Meditation is offered via Zoom every Friday at 9:30 am and facilitated by Ed Merck.
Tai Chi with Nan Doty is offered every Wednesday at 9:30 am.
Yoga with Carol Vega is held on Tuesdays at 9:00 am.
Both Tai Chi and Yoga are partially subsidized by our FRIENDS organization.
The Vineyard Smiles Dental Clinic, provided through MV Vineyard Health Care Access, is held quarterly and is free of charge. It includes a cleaning and mouth evaluation.
Hearing aid specialist, Shawn Woodbrey, visits monthly to provide hearing tests and hearing aid check-ups.
Free Health Screenings with our town nurse, Lila Fisher, are held monthly. Dates are included in the calendar section of our NEWSLETTER. No appointment needed!
SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) assists with health insurance and benefit options. Bill Glazier, our certified SHINE counselor, will speak with you individually to answer all of your Medicare/Medicaid related questions.
Memory Screenings are available with Outreach Worker, Victoria Haeselbarth, for those who are concerned about their memory.

FRESH COOKED MEALS

An assortment of frozen soups, made weekly in the Anchors kitchen, may also be purchased at a cost of $3.00 each or 2 for $5.00.
The Anchors Open Cupboard is a distribution site for surplus food for those who are income qualified and contains a wide variety of frozen, canned and boxed goods.
The ANCHORS offers numerous recreational and educational opportunities. Many are on-going, some are one-time events. Please see our NEWSLETTER for a current list of activities.
Join us for games, such as bridge and majong, crafts, like knitting and needlepoint, or our conversation or poetry groups. Learn the secrets to becoming an i-pad whiz, or stop in to enjoy our artists' gallery featuring a monthly rotation of work by local artists.
Don't miss our annual trips to BOSTON'S NORTH END, NANTUCKET, and the other special excursions we take throughout the year! The Council on Aging offers day trips based on suggestions from the 55 + community. Please call us at 508-627-4368 to sign up or to let us know where you would like to go.
Outreach is an important part of what we do and is available to all Edgartown residents over the age of 55 and their families.
Outreach worker, Victoria Haeselbarth, is available to provide you with personalized information regarding important resources that are available to serve your unique needs. These include, but are not limited to:
Advanced care planning
Healthcare or in-home services
In-home safety assessments
Low or no-cost grab bar and handrail installation
Rental and housing referrals
Smoke detector inspection and battery replacement
Victoria is also available to offer individualized help during difficult times. She may be reached between the hours of 9:00 and 4:00 Monday through Friday at 508-627-4368 ex.215.

HOME SAFETY MODIFICATION PROGRAM
If you are in need of safety modifications for your home, such as grab bars and handrails, we can help! Participants pay on a sliding scale with many installations at no-cost. The application process is simple and straightforward. Please call the Outreach Department at 508-627-4368 ex. 215 for further information.
A no-cost attorney is available for phone or in-person consultations. South Coastal Counties Legal Services, Inc. is a non- profit organization, serving clients in Dukes County, providing free legal help to low income and elderly clients in matters concerning income, healthcare, long-term care, nutrition, housing, utilities, protective services, defense of guardianship, abuse, neglect and age discrimination.
INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE
Free income tax assistance is available every March and April. For best chance of an appointment, please sign up well in advance.
South Shore Community Action Council Inc. is a private non-profit organization that provides a range of critical services to low-income individuals. Apply at The Anchors October through April each year.
A Memory Screening is a simple and safe evaluation tool that checks memory and other thinking skills. Test results are provided following the screening and are kept confidential.
