HEALTH and EXERCISE
The Anchors offers dental clinics, monthly foot clinics and monthly blood pressure clinics. The Anchors also offers exercise: tai chi, strength training, yoga, bowling and spring and fall bike rides (in addition to occasional special activities which are announced in our monthly newsletter).
Our exercise programs use trained, experienced, expert professionals who provide their services for substantially reduced rates. All exercise classes are subsidized by the Friends of ECOA.

HEALTH & WELLNESS
The Anchors provides Exercise Classes, Dental Clinics, Foot Clinics, Health Screenings and SHINE Counseling (Serving Health Information Needs of Everyone).
Exercise classes include Strength Training with Lisa Amols , Yoga with Carol Vega, Tai Chi with Nan Doty, and monthly bowling at the Bowl & Barn in Oak Bluffs. These opportunities are partially subsidized by our FRIENDS organization.
Our Vineyard Smiles Dental Clinic is held quarterly and is free of charge and includes a cleaning and mouth evaluation. It is provided through Vineyard Health Care Access.
Hearing aid specialist, Shawn Woodbrey, visits monthly to provide hearing tests and hearing aid check-ups.
Our Foot Clinics with Grete Christiansen are held monthly and cost $30.00. Make an appointment to have your toenails trimmed and your feet pampered!
Free Health Screenings with our town nurse, Lila Fisher, are held monthly. Dates are included in the calendar section of our newsletter. No appointment needed!
SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) can assist with health insurance and health benefit options. Bill Glazier will meet with you individually and answer all of your Medicare/Medicaid related questions.
Memory Screenings are available for those concerned about their memory.

FRESH COOKED MEALS
The Anchors offers nutrious home-cooked meals on Tuesdays and Fridays at noon, an assortment of frozen soups made in the Anchors kitchen for sale and The Anchors Open Cupboard a distribution site for surplus food for those income qualified.
The ANCHORS offers numerous recreational and educational opportunities. Many are on-going, some are one-time events. Please see our NEWSLETTER for further details.
Join us for games such as bridge or majong, crafts like knitting needlepoint, our conversation group or book group or poetry group, for a bike ride or walk. Learn the secrets to becoming an i-pad whiz or enjoy our artists gallery featuring new work every month.
Don't miss our annual trip to BOSTON'S NORTH END or the other special excursions we take throughout the year! The Council on Aging offers day trips based on suggestions from the 55 + community. Please call us at 508-627-4368 to sign up for one of our trips or let us know where you would like to go.
Outreach is an important component of what we do at the Anchors and is available to all Edgartown residents over the age of 55 and their families.
Outreach worker, Victoria Haeselbarth, is available to provide you with information regarding resources within the community that may serve your needs or to offer individualized help during difficult times. She may be reached between the hours of 9:00 and 4:00 Monday through Friday at 508-627-4368 ex.15.
Call to inquire about our new "EMT Outreach" program. An EMT and someone from the Council on Aging will visit your home to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors, supply other needed safety equipment and update your File of Life.
A no-cost attorney is available the first Tuesday of each month at one of the four Councils on Aging. South Coastal Counties Legal Services, Inc. is a non- profit organization, serving clients in Dukes County providing free legal help to low income and elderly clients in matters concerning income, healthcare, long-term care, nutrition, housing, utilities, protective services, defense of guardianship, abuse, neglect and age discrimination.
INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE
Free income tax assistance is available every March and April. For best chance of an appointment, please sign up well in advance.
South Shore Community Action Council Inc. is a private non-profit organization that provides a range of critical services to low-income individuals. Apply at The Anchors October through April each year.
A Memory Screening is a simple and safe evaluation tool that checks memory and other thinking skills. Test results are provided following the screening and are kept confidential.
